Over the last 3 or 4 years, we have assisted a number of clients in reviewing technology and applications. Whilst we would all love to have one system which does everything, the reality is that this is an unrealistic expectation.

A more realistic expectation is that the system you will choose will NOT do everything and that you WILL need other applications to work in together. To achieve this outcome integration is the key to success.

If you are building a set of requirements Integration should be one of your key requirements. The way integration is achieved can vary. One of the most common is with “APIs” (Application Programming Interface).

Clearly, this is not a complete list of every system that has API’s. It is intended to demonstrate that APIs are commonplace and should be an important part of your requirements.
