Over the last 2 years Working from home has become a regular part of our life. Whilst there are many opinions as to whether this is good or bad thing, we have certainly seen the benefit of a flexible technology environment.
Additional to our recent experience, technology has taken a significant shift which has altered the status of advanced technology into affordable options for small and medium size business.
The speed of technology change is something we all need to be aware of. The following are some questions you might want to consider in identifying if you are ready for the future.
Can I access client information from my Smart Phone, Laptop and Tablet?
Consider the last 10 interactions you have had with your “phone”. How many of these were to make or receive a phone call? This type of technology must be part of your future structure and it should integrate with your client management system(s).
Are any of my applications limited only to use in my Office?
Is your technology limited to software that must be installed on your computer? There is several technology categories where the transition from “On premises” to “Online” is currently on display. These include, Document Storage and Management, Accounting Systems and CRMs. It is worth doing some research if you haven’t already.
Can I easily create business automation?
Business automation has historically been something to spend a lot of money on and was out of the reach of many. There are now solutions which are in the reach of all businesses. Look for opportunities to automate day to day administrative and management tasks.
Can my applications share information between themselves?
Can I share information between my accounting software and CRM? Can I get reporting in the format I want?
Can staff access administrative tools and forms remotely?
Staff being able to self-manage there needs as they arise. Applying for annual leave, updating bank accounts for pay and complaints forms are a sample of things which should be part of your business improvement.
Do I have flexibility to change applications to meet my needs? Are your applications limiting your ability to make business changes? Are your applications determining how you will operate? Technology is there to support your business, not determine how you should run your business.
